I hate those songs you hear on the radio that are all “I can’t live without you, baby” or “without you I am nothing” or “life is pointless without you”.
I never want to be that kind of person. I never want to be that kind of woman who needs a man to validate her very existence as a person.
And I absolutely hate that that is the message being pumped into young girls’ minds. We have enough pressure on us. We have to be skinny and pretty. In order for a man to like us, our breasts must be high and in full view, our skirts short, and our pants tight.
We are expected to be smart enough to participate in a conversation, but not smart enough to hold our own. The things young girls go through mentally these day are an absolute atrocity. Add on top of this, the entertainment industry is proliferating the myth of the damsel in distress. Women need to be rescued, and we need a man to find us attractive in order for us to find ourselves attractive. It is absolute bullshit.
NEWSFLASH: It is possible, as a woman, to have a successful career. It is possible, as a woman, to have a happy life without becoming a housewife. You don’t need a man to tell you that you’re beautiful in order for it to be true. Beauty is not something someone’s opinion can change. On top of that, beauty isn’t even all that important! Girls, use your BRAINS! Live with honor, integrity, passion, and drive and nothing can hold you back. If you want to wear that tight skirt or that revealing top, do it because it makes you feel damn sexy, not because you hope it’ll make that guy notice you. Who even cares what he thinks? All those good qualities that he’d notice and validate in you already existed before you knew he did.
AND WOMEN: Enough with the tearing eachother down. No more slut shaming. C’mon guys, grow up. Unless someone’s sex life is directly impacting your own, it is none of your business. Women have enough trouble getting ahead in life with the derogatory terms men put upon us, we don’t need to do it to eachother. This is the main reason that men don’t need to fear women as a united force. We will never be a united force, and we will never accomplish anything if we continue to fund music with titles like “You A Stupid Hoe”. Yes, on the surface it’s pretty funny and seems harmless. But the thought of 14 year old girls whose self esteem has not developed yet listening to this garbage absolutely kills me.
End Rant.
